Sunscreen – Why do some work better than others?

Have you ever felt that sometimes you get better coverage than others when using sunscreen?

Being a Florida girl, sun exposure is a huge concern.  Add to the fact that I run outdoors most days, it’s definitely an important part of my daily routine.

Initially, I focused on sunscreens that were waterproof so they would continue to protect even if I was sweating.  I still kept getting sun regardless of how high the SPF was.  I’ve read articles that indicate anything over SPF 35 is a waste of money.

I spoke to doctor at the MedSpa where I get my plethora of services done and she told me that the one deciding factor when choosing a sunscreen is to ensure that it contains Zinc.  Zinc is what is going to protect the skin from getting sun.

I immediately went to the store to find a sunscreen with Zinc in it.  The doctor said that she knew that Coppertone had one that was for sensitive skin and was SPF 50.  I checked every bottle of waterproof sunscreen on the shelf and there was only ONE that had Zinc in it.  It was by Coppertone.

I’ve been using it ever since and I can tell you that it definitely makes all the difference in the world.  When applying the sunscreen, you can see the difference.  It is much thicker.  Until it is absorbed into the skin, you have a very white face.  I try to put it on first thing when I get up to allow at least 30 minutes for it to absorb into the skin before going for my run.

If you’re concerned about whether your sunscreen is providing adequate coverage, I highly recommend giving this a try and see if you can see the difference for yourself!  I promise, you won’t be disappointed.
